Music
I have always loved music and I always will. It is a major part of my life, and has been since I can remember. I have been playing the trombone since I was 7; that means that I have played trombone for over two thirds of my life. I also learned how to play piano (although, I am somewhat lacking in my skills there) and I also like to informally sing, although maybe someday I will join a real choir.
During high school career I had the opportunity to study with some very excellent teachers: Mr. Keepert (jazz), Mr. Adams (wind ensemble), and my trombone professor, Professor Martz. I played in musicals (Annie, Flapper, Les Miserable, etc.), a jazz combo, big band, orchestra, and wind ensemble. It was great.
When I came to MIT I continued to play, with the MIT Wind Ensemble, and occasionally with the MIT jazz band. My freshman and sophomore year I also took private lessons (through an MIT scholarship) with John Faieta of the Atlantic brass, who was a professor at both Berklee and Boston College.
I still continue to play, and plan on doing so for the rest of my life. Two years ago, I purchased a custom Edward's T-350 with a satin finished bell. It is the most beautiful instrument I have ever seen and playing it is like dying and going to heaven. In this music section I have included a sampling of some of my playing, including me playing with the SPASH (Stevens Point Area Senior High) big band on lead trombone, playing with the MIT wind ensemble on first trombone, and my high school senior recital. My favorite of them all is Super Mario Brothers, which is under the Recital link. Something about four trombones playing the Underworld theme is just fantastic.
